l J —•
CHAPTER 3
LABORATORY ANALYTICAL RESULTS
f
To evaluate soil and groundwater quality beneath the ARCO
Petroleum Products Company (ARCO) Service Station 6080 site, six
soil samples and three groundwater samples were collected and
analyzed. The soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum fuel
hydrocarbons (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method
8015, modified) , and benzene, toluene, and xylene (BTX) (EPA Method
8020) . The groundwater samples were analyzed for EPA 8015 modified,
r total lead, and EPA 602 BTX in fluid. All analyses were completed '
j
at Brown and Caldwell's (EC) . California 7epartraent of Health
Services certified Emeryville laboratory.
t
k Soil Quality ,
Sligrtly--' detectable concentrations of totalhydro-
carbons;; were found 'yin two so-l' samples, AL-r1-1 and.;.AL 5--1, using
` U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 8015 modified.
The concentrati'ors were 29 -'and :10' m_illig rams per xilograin (mg/kg) ,
respectively. "'Using EPA Method 8020 testing for benzene, toluene,
and xylene (BTX) , no detectable hydrocarbons were found. No
standard for total petroleum hydrocarbon has been set. The '
suggested designated levels. for BTX in a solid, for the protection
ofroundwater
g quality, are 0.7 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg, and 620 mg/kg.
The detection limit for each constituent is below its suggested ;
designated level. Designated levels for these constituent.; are
X=
' a identified in "Water Quality Objectives and Hazardous and Designated
14
Levels for . Chemical Constituents," published by the California `
ry Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region, in
September 1986. Results or the samples submitted for laboratoi:y
analysis are--sI,,own in` Table -3-1. The complete analytical results
are inaludfd in Appendix A.
PF
17
t
x .
s k
