Ms. Margaret Lagorio Project 797613
August 30, 1999
Page 3
remain in place, Pinnacle will direct the subcontractor to overexcavate until field
screening data (using a photoionization detector [PID1) of soil samples collected from the
base and sidewalls of the excavated area indicate soil containing relatively high
concentrations of hydrocarbons have been removed. Overexcavation of soil will be limited
to two feet laterally and six feet vertically in the product line areas and will not extend
deeper than a total depth of approximately 17 feet in the UST area. The excavated soil is
proposed to be stockpiled at the location shown on the site plan in Appendix A.
• The anticipated length of areas to be overexcavated for product line removal and
replacement will be approximately 100 to 120 feet. The actual length along the
piping trenches may vary based upon observed impacts and results of field
screening.
• The anticipated volume of material to be removed from beneath the piping
trenches is approximately 60 cubic yards. This volume is typical for recent piping
and dispenser replacement activities at other ARCO facilities.
• The excavated soil will be characterized for disposal and the analytical results
will be evaluated to determine the appropriate, ARCO-approved, disposal
facility. In the event that TPHG are less than 100 parts per million (ppm), the
disposal facility may be either Redwood Landfill or BFI Vasco Road Landfill. In
the event that TPHG concentrations exceed 100 ppm the soil will be transported
to TPS located in Richmond, CA. Dillard Trucking, of Byron California, the
ARCO transportation contractor, will submit profiling and disposal applications
to the appropriate facility and transport the soil for proper disposal.
• The anticipated volume of material to be removed from beneath the UST is
estimated to range from approximately 300 to 800 cubic yards. This volume is
typical for recent UST replacement activities at other ARCO facilities. The
excavated soil from the UST location will be stored onsite and characterized for
either proper disposal or, pending County approval, reuse as backfill material.
• A site plan showing the piping layout and proposed locations for soil stockpile
and other pertinent site features is located in Appendix A.
Reporting
Pinnacle will prepare a report summarizing the product delivery line, dispenser and UST
removal and replacement activities, including verification soil sampling results. Copies of
the certified analytical reports will be appended.
CPIE:\ARCO\6080\REPORTS\608OP101,DOC-951sg:1 pilin
