East Stockton Ground-Water Investigation, Proposed Measurements and Sampling of a
Monitoring Well at 1705 North Broadway Avenue, Stockton, CA, Unocal Order/Contract:
34402, Sierra-Pacific Project No. 94-055
Dear Mr. Schuler:
The State of California has asked Unocal Corporation to define the extent of agricultural-chemical
(ag-chem) concentrations known to be present in shallow ground water at an ag-chem facility at
1905 North Broadway Avenue, Stockton. Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants, Inc. (Sierra-
Pacific) has been contracted by Unocal to conduct the Broadway Avenue ground-water
investigation. We have been involved with the project since about May of 1994.
The ag-chem facility, currently operated by Crop Production Services (CPS), is located a few
hundred feet north of your property. Relatively low concentrations of fertilizer and pesticides have
been detected in wells at the site, and ground water may be flowing towards your property. We
are primarily concerned with parts-per-billion concentrations of the nematocide, 1,2-
dichloropropane (1,2-DCP).
On behalf of Unocal, Sierra-Pacific proposes to collect ground water samples from a monitoring
well located on your property to determine if ag-chemicals exist in the ground water. We also
propose to collect ground water samples which the San Joaquin County Environmental Health .
Department (SJCEHD) has asked you to analyze for various petroleum hydrocarbon compounds.
Sierra-Pacific proposes to purge and sample your monitoring well using a Grundfosso, 2-inch-
diameter, submersible pump. The Unocal water samples would be analyzed for Total Kjeldahl
Nitrogen (TKN) by EPA Method 351.4, nitrates (NO3) by EPA Method 300, and halogenated
hydrocarbon compounds by EPA Method 601.
46
VMt p ;3 :.; iforniaX9S762
a ve Suit !
