Mr. William P. Schuler
June 29, 1995
Page 2
Sierra-Pacific would deliver the Geo. F. Schuler, Inc. (GFS) water samples to Sequoia Analytical
Laboratories, Inc., under chain-of-custody, to be analyzed for Total Purgeable Petroleum
Hydrocarbons (TPPHC), quantified against gasoline with BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethyl-benzene,
and xylene) distinction, by EPA Method 8015-Mod./8020, and Total Extractable Hydrocarbons
(TEHC), quantified against diesel fuel, by EPA Method 8015.
Under this proposed arrangement, you would be sent a copy of Sierra-Pacific's detailed quarterly
monitoring report for the 1905 North Broadway Avenue site, with an addendum containing certified
analytical data for the GFS water samples. That package of data should be sufficient to address
the needs of SJCEHD. Unocal's water testing would enhance the data that you would otherwise
collect. GFS would not be invoiced by Sierra-Pacific for mobilization, well monitoring, sampling,
or report writing. Your company would be expected to pay analytical costs associated with
petroleum hydrocarbon testing, and that amount would be about $154.00.
If you prefer to have another laboratory perform the required analytical work, please let me know.
I will release the GFS water samples to you after sampling. If you take ground water samples to
another laboratory, you would assume responsibility for chain-of-custody, sampling protocols, and
quality assurance.
Please review the enclosed Unocal right-of-entry license agreement. If it meets with your approval,
return the signed document to Sierra-Pacific for transmittal to Unocal for appropriate signatures.
A counter-signed copy of the license agreement will be returned for your files. There is no hidden
agenda. Please call if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
SIERRA-PACIFIC GROUNDWATER CONSULTANTS, INC.
Joh ephen Ra , CEG-1133
Senior Engineering Geologist
JSR/cf
CC. W.T. Nickerson, Unocal
Wendy Wyels, Central Valley - Regional Water Quality Control Board
Michael Infurna, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
,5-y. i whi TK'u - : Y • ar' S k'
i
