As of Thursday, May 26, 2016, 385 18-yard bins of impacted material have been <br /> removed from the release site under the oversight of Regional Water Quality Control <br /> Board staff. The soil is being removed in 20 foot sections at a time, with the excavation <br /> reaching approximately 12 feet below grade and 7 feet below the depth of the piping. As <br /> part of the excavation work, a 90 foot section of an adjacent pipeline that is no longer in <br /> service had to be removed. An 80 foot section of the active pipeline where the release <br /> occurred has been removed and replaced. Testing of the replacement pipeline is <br /> ongoing under the direction of the State Fire Marshal's Office. <br /> - y:yul <br /> Excavation and cleanup activities continue from May 20, 2016 Shell Oil pipeline spill <br /> On Tuesday, May 31, 2016, EHD staff reached out to the community in the area of the <br /> spill to provide current information and to offer a point of contact to address any <br /> questions or concerns they may have.
