Because the excavation is so near building foundations, soft backfill
will be removed with caution and will be replaced with structural backfill. A member of our
staff experienced in foundation engineering will be on-site and will determine limits of the
excavation work together with County personnel. If itis considered safe to do so, soil
samples will be obtained from the excavation bottom and sidewalls. If it is considered unsafe
to sample during the work, soil sampling would be peIrformed with a drill rig after the
excavation is backfilled.
We anticipate removing less than 45 cubic yards of soil during the work; the excavated soil
will be placed on the existing on-site stockpile. The soil stockpile will be sampled at ten
locations and would then be covered with a plastic membrane while remediation/disposal
alternatives are considered. Contaminants anticipated at'this time include metals, gasoline
and aromatic hydrocarbons, all at low concentrations.
i
i
3176 INDUSTRIAL BLVD. + WEST SACRAMENTO,CA 95691 s TELEPHONE 916/371-0434 + FAX 916/371-1809
{
