Gealogieal7"eckrucs lrcc. '""
Tann;Closure Investigation
Project No. 1218.2
June 13, 2005
2.1 GeoProbe Survey
Three GeoProbe boreholes are proposed for the site. They will be located as proposed on the
. Site Map, Figure 2 (GP-1, GP-2 & GP-3). Final locations of the borings may be adjusted in
the field based on field indications of underground utilities.
The borehole will be drilled with a GeoProbe rig owned and operated by V&W Drilling, a
licensed drilling contractor. The GeoProbe advances a coring tool with a pneumatic hammer
to a selected depth. Upon reaching that depth the coring tool is opened and advanced further
to fill the core barrel. The soil sample enters an acetate cylinder contained in the coring tool.
Upon filling, the coring tool is pulled from the hole and the cylinder is removed. The
cylinder is then cut and the selected interval is capped with Teflon foil and plastic end caps
and placed on ice for shipment to the laboratory. The remainder is used for geologic logging.
The GeoProbe borings will be advanced to a total depth of 20 feet bgs. With the GeoProbe it
is just as easy to continuous core as it is to core from selected intervals. Up to two samples
from each borehole will be submitted to the laboratory for analysis.
2.1.1 Soil Laboratory Analyses
Up to two soil samples from each borehole will be submitted to a state certified laboratory for
the following analysis:
- • Benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene (BTEX) by EPA method 8260B
a Gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-G) by EPA method 8015m
• Diesel range petroleum hydrocarbons (TEPH-D) by EPA method 8015m
• Oxygenated fuel compounds (OFCs) by EPA method 8260B
The detection limits for these compounds are listed below. A Chain of Custody will be
completed for all samples collected and tracked to ensure sample integrity.
Detection Limits: BTEX OFCs* TPH-G TEPH-D Total Lead
Soil ( K ) 3.0 50 1,000 1,000 1,000
*=standard 5 oxygenated fuel compounds,plus EDB &DCA
3.0 SCHEDULE & REPORTING
Geological Technics Inc. anticipates beginning fieldwork no later than 30 days after work
plan approval and issuance of the drilling permit. The information gathered during this phase
of work will be presented in a report, which will include a summary of the geology as well as
the results of sample analyses. The project will be supervised by Dr. Ray Kablanow, a
registered professional geologist. Copies of the report will be forwarded to both the
appropriate County and State regulatory agencies.
