The
locations are intended to define the extent of the soil plume that is centered on the UST and
dispenser island.. The actual location of the probes will be selected in the field, as numerous
utility lines exist below ground surface at the site.
2.1 Direct Push Borehole Survey
Soil Core Sampling
Six Direct Push boreholes will be advanced as indicated in Figure 2 to a maximum depth of
r.., 40 feet below grade surface. Soil samples will be continuously collected to total depth.
The boreholes will be drilled with an AMS PowerProbe DPT/HSA rig owned and operated
. by Resonant Sonic International of Woodland, CA. The PowerProbe advances a coring tool
with a pneumatic hammer to a selected depth. Upon reaching that depth the coring tool is
opened and advanced further to fill the core barrel. The soil sample enters an acetate cylinder
. contained in the coring tool. Upon filling, the coring tool is pulled from the hole and the
cylinder is removed. The cylinder is then cut and the selected interval is capped with Teflon
end caps and placed on ice for shipment to the laboratory. The remainder is used for geologic
*. logging.
The PowerProbe rig has the advantage that if direct push conditions meet refusal, then the rig
. can be converted to hollow stem auger operation. This method will be used as necessary.
Up to three soil samples per borehole location will be submitted to the laboratory for
. analysis, with the capillary fringe soil sample from each borehole analyzed as a minimum (if
encountered). .
- After the terminal depth is reached the boreholes will be closed with a neat cement grout
containing less then 4% bentonite.
2.2 Soil Laboratory Analyses
Up to 18 soil samples will be submitted to a state certified laboratory for analysis for:
-” • Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX) by EPA method 8020.
• Gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-G) by EPA method 5030/8015(m).
L .
4..
f.r
