The tube ends were covered with teflon sheeting, capped and sealed with duct tape
and labeled. The tubes were stored in an ice chest f& laboratory transport under chain of
' custody.
2.2 Soil Borings and Sampling
' The deeper soil borings were drilled with a SIMCO 2400-SK hollow-stem auger rig
equipped with 5-inch outside diameter augers. Soil samples were collected by lowering
' an 18-inch split-spoon sampler lined with three 6-inch by 2-inch brass tubes into the augers
at the end of drilling rods. The sampler was driven into the soil beneath the augers at
' the sampling depth. Upon retrieval, the ends of the lowermost tube in the sampler were
covered with teflon sheeting, capped and sealed with duct tape, labeled, and stored on ice
for laboratory transport under chain of custody. Soil from the other tubes was inspected
for evidence of contamination and lithologically described by an ESE geologist.
' The shallower soil borings were excavated with a hand auger. Samples were collected by
driving a steel sampler lined with a brass tube into the soil with a sliding hammer. The
brass tube was sealed and labeled as described above.
' 2.3 Excavation Soil Sampling
Samples from the excavation were collected from soil brought up in an excavator or
backhoe bucket from a specified location. The samples were collected in brass tubes and
handled as described above.
2.4 Analytical Methods
All soil samples were analyzed by Curtis & Tompkins, Ltd. or Sequoia Analytical, both
' California certified laboratories. Analyses included: Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as
' 2
