1 0 .0
Field Investigation Work Plan
Brookside Estates,Stockton, California 1/9/07 Sert Consulting,Inc.
'
All drilling locations will be backfilled with a cement/bentonite grout immediately after sampling.
2.2 Soil Sampling
Soil samples from the borings will be submitted for soil property analysis as determined by SERT.
Samples from direct-push borings will be collected by extracting the acetate or brass liner from within the
drive rod at the desired depth. Liners will be 0.5 feet in length. Upon retrieval, the ends of the sample
liners will be sealed with plastic end caps and wrapped with duct tape to hold the soil within the liners and
maintain soil moisture content during shipment to the testing laboratory.
2.3 Grab Groundwater Sampling
' Four temporary borings will be used as grab groundwater sampling locations. These will not be
constructed as typical monitoring wells. After reaching approximately three feet below the water line, the
drive rods will be retracted several feet to allow groundwater to enter the boring for a grab groundwater
sample with a disposable bailer. Water sampling will be performed through the drilling rods or augers to
maintain the hole during water sampling. An inner exposed screen is preferred for sampling, similar to
Hydropunch or Geoprobe methods. A diagram of a typical boring and the anticipated abandonment
method is presented in Figure 6.
2.4 Groundwater Sampling Methods
' Groundwater samples will be collected from the temporary borings using a HydroPunch sampling tool or
equivalent. Once the targeted sampling depth is reached, the HydroPunch tool will be pushed several feet
into the saturated formation. The drive pipe will be pulled upward to open the inlet of the sampler,
allowing groundwater to flow into the screened sample chamber. Purging or well development will not
be required. Samples will be collected from the sample chamber using a stainless steel or disposable
bottom-emptying bailer. Samples to be submitted for metals will be filtered during collection with a
0.45-micron in-line filter prior to delivery to the lab.
2.5 Water Level Measurements
During groundwater sampling in the four locations, the depth to water will be measured with a water level
sounder for future reference.
2.6 Field Quality Control Measures
Quality control measures will be implemented for all field work to maintain the quality and reliability of
the collected data. For water sampling, one duplicate sample will be collected and tested for similar
parameters along with the four planned water samples. Details of additional quality control measures that
will be implemented are described in Section 3.
2.7 Equipment Decontamination
rAll down-hole equipment that comes into contact with groundwater will be cleaned before and after use,
and/or between uses at different sampling locations. Cleaning consists of washing using a phosphate-free
detergent wash followed by a deionized or distilled water rinse.
g
2.8
Investigation Derived Waste
Soil cuttings will be kept to a minimum by using small diameter hollow stem augers or the direct-push
drilling method. Only discarded soils from the sampling efforts will require disposal. Since there are no
r 3
