LEVINE•FRICKE
three from the southern half. The approximate sampling
locations are shown on Figure 1. The samples will be collected
by Levine-Fricke staff from depths of approximately 1 and 3
feet below grade using hand-augering equipment. Samples will
collected in clean brass tubes, capped, sealed, labeled and
stored in a chilled cooler for delivery to MedTox Laboratory of
Pleasanton, a State-certified laboratory. The laboratory will be
instructed to composite into two samples for chemical analysis
the three samples collected at the 1-foot depth from both the
northern and southern portions of the Site (one representing the
northern section, and one representing the southern portion) .
The laboratory will be asked to hold the samples collected at the
3-foot depth pending the results of the 1-foot depth samples.
All augered holes will be grouted using a mixture of bentonite
and cement per the requirements of the San Joaquin Local Health
District (SJLHD) . The grout will consist of a 4 percent
bentonite mixture and will be tremied in. The SJLHD will be
contacted to arrange for inspection of the grouting after sample
collection has been completed.
Samples will be analyzed in the laboratory for chlorinated
pesticides using EPA Method 8080, chlorinated herbicides using
EPA Method 8150, organophosphate compounds using EPA Method 8140,
and the metals arsenic, mercury and lead by atomic adsorption
methodology.
Field area soil samples will be tested for the presence of
methane gas using a portable organic vapor analyzer (OVA) with a
flame ionization detector (FID) .
Data Evaluation and Report Preparation
The data obtained through the sampling and analysis described
above will be compiled, evaluated and presented in a written
report. The report will include a description of the methods,
findings and interpretation of the findings obtained through this
work (including recommendations for further investigation, if
warranted) , and figures showing the location of samples and
graphic representation of analytical results.
We would like to begin this work as soon as possible. We should,
therefore, appreciate any assistance you can provide to hasten
the permit process. If you have any questions, please call me or
Andy Wright.
Sincerely yours,
Beth Gurney, .E.A.
Senior Project Scientist
-2-
