I ud f izi 1C,- L_ L_C_,I1 1L-r f':l l.t`,.t.!I'i.
LEVINE-FRICKE
Laboratory analysis conducted on soil and water samples collected
will include tests of selected samples for one or more of the
following: chlorinated pesticides, chlorinated herbicides, and
arsenic, mercury and lead (the more persistent of the commonly-
used agricultural chemicals of environmental concern) , volatile
organic compounds (solvents) , and petroleum hydrocarbons. An
organic vapor analyzer will be used to screen samples for the
presence of volatile compounds in areas where such are suspected,
and will be used as a guide in selecting the depths below the
ground surface at which samples will be collected. Soil gas in
areas known to contain peat layers or rubbish fill will also be
screened for the presence of methane, using a field organic vapor
analyzer, during augering or drilling of borings.
Assuming that our revised proposal meets with the approval of
Grupe Company, Copley Real Estate Advisors, and the San Joaquin
County Health District, we have scheduled drilling for Thursday
and Friday, November 3 and 4, 1988. We have also scheduled an
underground utility check for Wednesday, November 2 , 1988.
Unless otherwise advised, either myself or someone else From this
office will be at the subject property at 9: 00 A.M. on Wednesday
to point out our proposed sampling locations to the utility con-
tractor. The cost for the utility check was not included in our
budget estimate of Work order No. 1, and we estimate the cost to
be an additional $ 1, 300-1, 600.
under the current time frame (i.e. providing a written report of
our results by November 23 , 1988) , we will not be able to include
sampling of the Ripkin portion of the subject property in our
scheduled field investigation. if you wish, we may be able to
extend sampling by one additional day in order to collect samples
from this property, but laboratory results would not be available
in time to include in our November 23 report. We propose that
this portion of the site be divided in halt, and an additional
four borings be augered at random locations in each half. Each
set of four samples would be composited as with the remainder of
the site, and an additional two samples would be submitted for
analysis. if you wish to proceed with this additional sampling,
please let me know and we will provide you with a separate cost
estimate for this work.
Not including the additional cost for the utility check, the
total cost for Task 5, soil and ground water sampling, is
estimated to be $ 8, 500, as estimated in our Work order No. 1.
The total cost for Task 6, laboratory analysis, is estimated to
be $ 1s, 800 or approximately $ 500 higher than our original
estimate for the Stockton site assuming a normal laboratory
analysis turnaround of 10 working days.
-2-
