z
{ Section 2.0
Field Investigation
4 Two borings, designated B-1 and B-2,were drilled at the Site as shown on Figure 2.
( .i
F Prior to drilling,CDM obtained boring permits from County of San Joaquin
Environmental Health Division. Underground Service Alert was notified and City
personnel familiar with the Site located underground utilities and obstructions. The
City provided utility clearance of the boring locations following an onsite meeting
with their representatives.
CDM advanced the two borings using hollow stem auger drilling techniques. Mike
Gray of CDM, a Certified Engineering Geologist, supervised all field activities, logged
the borings,and classified the soils.
L I B-1 was drilled to a b depth of 41.5 feet s and was constructed as a piezometer. B-2
P g
was drilled to a depth of 51.5 feet. In each boring, soil samples were obtained at five-
I foot intervals using a California split-spoon sampler, except for the upper sample that
was collected from the auger (grab sample). Soil samples were classified in
accordance with the United Soil Classification System(USCS). Boring logs are
included in Appendix A.
In B-1, a piezometer (referred to as PZ-1) was constructed to measure:,the static water
level, collect a grab groundwater sample, and conduct a falling head permeability test
(slug test). The purpose of the slug test was to estimate the hydraulici, conductivity of
+ the subsurface soils. PZ-1 was constructed using a 2-inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC
pipe set including a 20-slot screen. A flush-mounted monument cover was placed
following the installation of the piezometer. The piezometer details are presented on
the boring log for B-1 (Appendix A).
Soil cuttings extracted from B-1 and B-2 were stockpiled£onsite. The stockpiled soils
were placed on plastic sheeting and securely covered following the completion of
drilling. All decontamination liquids and groundwater that discharged from the
piezometer during development and purging were placed in 55-gallon drums. Our
recommendations for disposal of soils and groundwater are presented in Section 5 of
this report.
1
n
t
CDM Camp1?. ma.h-,- 2-1
0:525W92924&GED-T4ReporrBroekside Pump StaUon.doc
j f
