Report-Soil Boring Installation Page 3
612 N. Buena Vista Ave.
' Project No. 480.2
March 9, 2005
2.0 FIELD DATA COLLECTION PROCEDURES
2.1 Preliminary Site Work
As mentioned above, a permit to drill was obtained from the San Joaquin County
Department of Environmental Health. Prior to commencing operations, the site
of the former gasoline tank was identified from county records and was marked
on the pavement.
2.2 Hollow Stem Auger Soil Boring
On February 25, 2005, Geo-Phase Environmental mobilized to the site to install
the soil borings and collect the soil and groundwater samples using a Geo-Probe
drilling rig owned and operated by V & W Drilling (C-57 License #720904).
' The Geo-Probe is a truck mounted drilling system that uses direct-push
Y p
technology to collect soil and groundwater samples. Four-foot long by 314-inch
' diameter steel rods are pushed or hammered into the ground using a hydraulic
ram or the hydraulically actuated hammer mounted on the ram. The lead 4-foot
' section consists of a 1.5-inch diameter soil sampling/coring device.
Three soil borings designated as B-1, B-2, and B-3 were advanced at the
'• following locations:
o Boring B-1 was located near the northeast corner of the Property. It was
' intended to provide a background sample to be compared with the sample
from near the brine pit_
• Boring B-2 was located about 2 feet east of the brine pit.
• Boring B-3 was located at the site of the former underground gasoline
' tank.
After collecting the groundwater sample from each boring, the boring was filled
to grade with Class G neat cement. No soil cuttings were generated during the
Geo-Probe drilling process. The boring locations are also shown on the site map.
' 2.3 Soil and Groundwater Sampling Procedures
Soil samples were collected continuously using a 4-foot long by 1.5-inch inside
diameter drive sampler lined with a plastic sample sleeve. Upon retrieval, each
soil sample was examined for the purpose of geological logging. A log of the
boring was kept that noted the soil characteristics such as lithology, color and
texture at four-foot intervals. Other information logged included sample times,
and soil staining and odors. Upon completion of the sample examination, the
2937 Veneman Ave., 4B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
