12 September 2008
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0440
2.1. PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
A health and safety plan will be updated in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health
Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985).
Prior to mobilization, the boring and monitoring well locations will be clearly marked and a utility
clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert.
2.2. MONITORING WELL DRILLING
Based on the analytical results from ground water samples collected from CPT-1 in November 2007,
AGE proposes to install one depth discreet ground water monitoring well at the location of the
CPT-1 boring to evaluate the previous detection of deep dissolved hydrocarbons. This location is
25 feet down-gradient and north of the former UST/dispenser release areas. Additionally, AGE
proposes to install one depth discreet ground water monitoring well 10 feet northeast of well MW-5
to satisfy the directive of the EHD.Proposed ground water monitoring well borings will be advanced
to approximately 70 feet below surface grade(bsg)utilizing a truck-mounted,hollow stem drill rig
equipped with 8-inch diameter hollow-stem augers. Total depth of the borings may vary according
to hydrogeologic/geologic conditions encountered during drilling.
Soil samples will be collected from the borings continually from 55 to 70 feet bsg. Procedures for
advancement of soil borings and soil sampling are presented in Section 3.1.
2.3. WELL COMPLETION, DEVELOPMENT AND SURVEY
Following completion of the soil borings, a ground water monitoring wells will be installed in the
soil borings. Following well installations, wells will be developed to maximize water flow and
minimize the amount of fine-grained sediment drawn into the wells during pumping or bailing and
the wells will be surveyed by a state licensed surveyor.Procedures for well installation, development
and surveying are presented in Sections 3.2 and 3.3.
2.4. GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Ground water monitoring and sampling of newly installed ground water monitoring wells will be
conducted on a quarterly basis for the first year and annually thereafter unless an alternate schedule
or suspension of monitoring is approved by the EHD. Ground water monitoring activities will
include recording depth to ground water measurements and collection of ground water samples.
Advanced GeoE,nvironmental,Inc.
