Guidelines: City of Tracy Westside Channel Outfall Project
SAIC Project No. 06-6102-00-2931-030
May 21,2003
4. If excavation activities encounter heavily impacted oil saturated soil, the general
contractor may choose to conduct over-excavation of that area. Over-excavation
of impacted soil should be kept to a minimum as over-excavation may increase
the likely hood that further contamination will be encountered.
5. If free phase oil is seeping into the trench excavation, SAIC will alert the
equipment operator and general contractor. SAIC will document the location and
photo document the seeps. If free phase oil is pooling at the bottom of the trench,
SAIC will coordinate with Sturgeon & Sons to vacuum off the oil. If the oil seep
is minimal, the contractor may choose to line the trench excavation with plastic
sheeting and continue pipe construction.
These procedures are intended as a guideline to soil segregation during excavation
activities. If there are any questions pertaining to the content of the guidelines please call
Todd Del Frate at(916) 979-3741.
Sincerely,
SCIENCE APPLICATIONS INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION
Todd A. Del Frate R.G.
Project Manager
K:\CVX-OVP\BOW SITES\Westside Channel\guidelinesltr.doc
