ECM group
March 1 , 2003

Michael Infurna, Senior REHS Ir,<<-E l '— D
Site Mitigation Unit IV/LOP
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department MAR 0 5 2003
304 E. Weber Street
Stockton, California 95202 ENVIRONMENT HEALTH
PERMIT/SERVICES
Re: Work Plan for Subsurface Exploration
PG & E Trench Project
Byron Road, Tracy, California
Dear Mr. Infurna:
ECM Group (ECM) has prepared this letter on behalf of Pacific Gas and Electric
Company (PG&E) to describe work planned to collect soil and groundwater samples
at the subject site. The samples will be used to evaluate subsurface conditions
along a planned trenching alignment. Analytic results from the sampling work will
be used to provide recommendations for worker health and safety measures that
may be implemented during the planned trenching activities. The project trenching
alignment is adjacent to a new residential development in the City of Tracy. This
work plan is submitted to EHD for approval prior to the site investigation activities.
The trench excavation will be performed to install a natural gas pipeline along the
south side of Byron Road, west of Corral Hollow Road in Tracy, California. Soil and
groundwater contamination from existing pipelines (operated by others) has been
identified in subsurface studies in the general vicinity of the planned excavation.
This investigation is planned only for assessment of subsurface conditions with
respect to worker safety during the trenching project. No additional assessment
activities to investigate or identify contaminant source(s) are planned.
Scope of Work
1 . ECM will complete twenty (20) soil borings along the approximate centerline
of the planned trench excavation. The borings will be appproximately 8 to
12 ft deep, and will be spaced about 100 ft apart. The borings will be
completed using a truck-mounted drilling rig, with either solid or hollow flight
augers. The attached permit forms include the drilling contractor's C-57
registration.
290 West Channel Drive, Benicia, Ca. 94510 707-751 -0655 707-751-0653 (fax)
