1 Scott Mansholt -2- 8 September 2003
ChevronTexaco
West Byron Road Corridor
1 groundwater samples should include total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline(TPH-g),benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTFR), and methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE).
1 2. Similarly, we concur with the consultants proposal to advance additional borings north of the Sou
property within the Byron Road easement,to collect soil and groundwater samples for analysis.
Similarly, as described above, at least four groundwater samples should be obtained for analysis fr m
1 borings without free product.
3. Off-site soil and groundwater information needs to be provided for the Caldron's Store leaking
1 underground storage tank(UST) investigation, confirming that leaks have not migrated downgradient
into the Byron Road easement. If the information cannot be obtained, a soil boring(s) should be
advanced north of the store and former UST excavation to collect soil and groundwater samples. Soil
and groundwater samples should be.analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbon analysis as described in
1 item##1 above.
4, During PG&E's March 2003 investigation within the Byron Road easement, north of the Monterosso
1 property, concentrations of TPH-g were identified in soil and groundwater. We recommend that an
additional boring(s) be advanced near PG&E boring B-10 and in the vicinity of borings B-14 and 15, to
collect soil and groundwater samples for analysis as described in item##1 above.
1 5. The well survey and search has identified several private domestic water wells along the south side Df
Byron Road from the McCormack property to Interstate 205. We recommend that a.groundwater
1 sample be obtained from the wells and submitted for petroleum hydrocarbon analysis as described i
item##1 above.
1 ChevronTexaco and Regional Board staff, to expedite the characterization process during the course of the
investigation work, will review the results of analysis and field observations to determine the need for
additional borings andsampling.
1 We concur with the 18 August 2003 West Byron Road Corridor workplan provided our comments outlined,
above.are addressed.
1 If you have any questions or comments, please contact Dean Hubbard at(559)445-5179. Please notify
Regional Board staff at least 48 hours prior to commencing the field investigation and drilling activities.
1 SHI:I.'1`ON R. GRA . C.
