LEVI N E•FRICKE
Each boring will be sealed with cement--bentonite grout after
completion. No borings will be left open overnight. The grout
will consist of a 4 percent bentonite mixture and be tremied into
each boring. Soil cuttings generated during drilling will be
wrapped in polyethylene and contained on-site until laboratory
data is available to determine appropriate disposal methods.
The drilling augers and soil sampling equipment will be
steam-cleaned between borings. No petroleum-based lubricants
will be used on the augers or samplers.
Collecting Soil _Samples
At least three soil samples will be collected from each boring.
The samples will be collected in 2llinch diameter clean brass
liners inserted into the drive barrel sampler. The soil samples
will be screened with a photoionization detector (PID) for
volatile organic compounds and will be visually inspected for
discoloration. The samples will be labelled and sealed with
plastic caps, over aluminum foil, secured with electrical tape.
All samples collected will then be immediately placed in a
chilled ice chest for delivery to the analytical laboratory.
Strict chain-of-custody protocols will be followed during sample
handling.
Laboratory Analysis of Soil Samples
The samples will be hand delivered to Med-Tox Associates
Analytical Laboratory of Pleasant Hill, California. We estimate
that approximately 3 samples will be analyzed for
characterization of petroleum product type using a Gas
Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (G /MS) scan and 25 samples for
TPH using modified EPA Method 8015 and/or EPA Method 418. 1, based
upon the hydrocarbons detected in the characterization. The
sample preparation method will be EPA 3500.
Data Analysis
Once the field and laboratory data have been received, the
results will be evaluated and recommendations for further
investigation or remediation, if necessary, will be developed.
-2-
