Y
PROPOSED WORK PLAN PAGE 3
FORMER RULE ENTERPRISE PROPERTY JULY 29, 1988
TRACY, CALIFORNIA PR 88--55A
A: .
The investigation will itivolvedrilling approximately
20 borings down to depths extending to approximately 5
feet below grade . Soil samples from the borings will be
collected for chemical analysis . Drilling will be
conducted using hollow item flight auger drilling
equipment . The augers and other equipment will be
steamed cleaned prior to use and recleaned upon contact
with on-site borings .
B: Exploratory Fig1d Schedule
AEL proposes to conduct the exploration phase of the
project on August 8, 1968 . A state licensed drilling
contractor familiar with hazardous waste investigation
procedures will be utilized )
C: Sample CnIlac ion
Using the hollow-stem flight auger drilling method, a
retractable plug prevents soil from entering the auger
flights during drilling. The plug is affixed to the
lower end of a rod that fits within the hollow auger
flights. When a target depth is reached the plug will
be replaced by a Modified California Drive Sampler
which is lowered to the bottom of the boring. The
sampler is then driven into the soil for a distance of
approximately 12 inches. The sampler will be driven by
repeatedly raising a 140-pound hammer to a height of 18
inches and dropping it on the upper end of the rod
until the sampler has advanced 12 inches. After driving
is completed, the rod and sampler are retrieved from
the boring and separated . The soil is removed from the
sampler and prepared for shipment to an analytical
laboratory.
The Modified California Sampler consists of an outer
sample barrel and an inner, thin-walled set of sieves.
For this application, two S--inch long sleeves, placed
end to end, will be used . As soil is forced into the
sampler by the driving action described above, a soil
sample will be collected ) in the rings . After removal
from the boring and detachment from the rod, the
sampler will be dismantled and the inner rings
containing the soil sample removed . The lower ring will
then be sealed by covering the ends with aluminum foil
and securing the caps with duct tape . The sample will
then be labeled and placed in cold storage until
delivered to the analytical laboratory. To avoid
