Human Health Screening Evaluation
Mountain House Development Site#6 January 18,2011
Ca= concentration in air, mg/m3
Section 5.3 describes how SAIC estimated the value for Ca using equations presented in the PEA
Guidance Manual Figures 2.5, 2.6, and 2.7 for VOCs, and Figure 2.8 for non-VOCs.
The inhalation cancer risk calculations for potential exposure to on-site soils are provided in
Table 9. Potential cancer risks were estimated for carcinogenic COPCs and then summed among
chemicals for inhalation exposures.
SAIC summed the cancer risks for oral and dermal exposures (Table 8)with the risks for
inhalation exposures (Table 9)to estimate the cancer risks across exposure routes for soil. The
sum of oral, dermal, and inhalation cancer risks for soil are provided in Table 10.
5.2 RESIDENTIAL NON-CANCER HEALTH HAZARDS
SAIC calculated the oral and dermal health hazards, and inhalation hazards for exposure to on-
site soils for potential on-site residential receptors using the following equations:
Oral and Dermal Hazards for Soil (PEA Guidance Manual, Figure 2.3):
Hazardsoij= ([Cs/RfDoj x [1.28E-051) + ([Cs/RfDo] x [1.28E-041 x ABS)
Where:
Hazardsoil= oral and dermal non-cancer hazards from direct soil exposure
Cs= concentration in soil, mg/kg
RfDo =oral reference dose, in units of mg/kg-day
ABS = dermal absorption fraction, dimensionless
The oral and dermal hazard calculations for potential exposure to on-site soils are provided in
Table 11. Potential non-cancer hazards were estimated for each COPC and then summed among
chemicals for oral and dermal exposures.
Inhalation Non-Cancer Hazard for Air(PEA Guidance Manual, Figure 2.4):
Hazardair= (Ca/RfDi) x 0.639
Where:
Hazardair= inhalation non-cancer hazard from indirect soil exposure
RfDi=the inhalation reference dose, mg/kg-day
Ca= concentration in air, mg/m3
Section 5.3 describes how SAIC estimated the value for Ca using equations presented in the PEA
Guidance Manual Figures 2.5, 2.6, and 2.7 for VOCs, and Figure 2.8 for non-VOCs.
The inhalation hazard calculations for potential exposure to on-site soils are provided in
Table 12. Potential hazards were estimated for each COPC and then summed among chemicals
for inhalation exposures.
7 SAI`®
from sclence to swgtloRs
