Box 5012 <br /> San Ramon, CA 94583 <br /> REMOVAL OF CONSTRUCTION DEWATERING WELLS FROM THE TREATMENT <br /> SYSTEM, TRIMARK COMMUNITIES MOUNTAIN HOUSE CREEK STREAMBED <br /> ALTERATION PROJECT, BYRON ROAD, MOUNTAIN HOUSE, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY <br /> We have reviewed the Request for Removal of Construction Dewatering Wells From Service, Mountain <br /> House Creek Streambed Alteration Project, Mountain House, California document dated 25 February <br /> 2005 submitted by ChevronTexaco. The document was prepared for ChevronTexaco by Science <br /> Applications International Corporation (SAIC). Additionally, we reviewed a 1 March e-mail progress <br /> report message from SAIC, updating the status of construction activities and the project dewatering <br /> wells. <br /> An area of petroleum-impacted soil.approximately 200-feet in diameter, identified as Mountain House <br /> Site#1, is located within and adjacent to the streambed alteration project. The construction project <br /> includes removal of an existing road crossing, the installation of a new Byron Road bridge and crossing <br /> for the adjacent railroad. Currently, groundwater from sixteen construction dewatering wells is directed_ <br /> to an on-site treatment system before discharge to an adjoining property(Field G) in accordance with <br /> General Order No. R5-2003-0044. Previously, six dewatering wells were removed from service and <br /> properly abandoned according to the well abandonment plan approved by Regional Board staff. <br /> The recent e-mail message reported that as of 1 March 2005, dewatering well Nos. 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, <br /> 14, and 15 have been removed from service and properly abandoned. Review of the information <br /> indicates that the remaining dewatering well Nos. 1, 2, 5, and 17 through 21 will be re-routed around the <br /> treatment system for discharge to Field G. These remaining wells are located between 94 and 210 feet <br /> upgradient (south-southwest) of the Mountain House Site#1 project and outside the impacted soil area. <br /> California Environmental Protection Agency <br /> 0a Recycled Paper <br />
