Dean Hubbard <br /> Engineering Geolo ist <br /> DATE: 19 May 2004 <br /> SIGNATURE: +' . <br /> SUBJECT: GROUNDWATER SAMPLING RESULTS, CHEVRONTEXACO-TRIMARK <br /> COMMUNITIES, MOUNTAIN HOUSE PROJECT, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> ChevronTexaco submitted a workplan dated 19 March 2004 to conduct soil and groundwater <br /> characterization at Mountain House sites # I and# 2 located on Byron Road approximately six miles <br /> northwest of Tracy. Regional Board staff approved the workplan 28 March 2004. Fieldwork commenced <br /> on 19 April 2004. <br /> ChevronTexaco is conducting the investigation to characterize impacted soil and groundwater as a result of <br /> crude oil leaks from the former Old Valley Pipeline (OVP) present along Byron Road and the adjacent <br /> UPRR tracks near Mountain House Creek. The investigation is being conducted along Mountain House <br /> Creek where it crosses beneath Byron Road and the railroad tracks. Trimark Communities, Inc., as part of <br /> a proposed housing and community development, is planning a streambed alteration to accommodate <br /> replacement of the Byron Road and UPRR bridges. Previous investigations have indicated that petroleum <br /> hydrocarbon compounds are present in soil and groundwater at Mountain House sites # 1 and# 2, and the <br /> proposed alteration will likely encounter impacted soil and groundwater. <br /> OBSERVATIONS AND COMMENTS <br /> I conducted a field inspection on 21 April 2004 to observe the field activities and to collect groundwater <br /> samples in conjunction with SAIC field staff. The project site is primarily agriculture fields and/or is <br /> undeveloped. The nearest rural residences were approximately one-half mile south and northwest. <br /> On the day of my visit, there were two core rigs working on the south side of Byron Road, where Mountain <br /> House Creek flows north beneath the road and adjacent UPRR tracks. I met SAIC field representatives, <br /> Will Slowik and Lee Ignatowicz at the site. Photographs taken during my inspection are attached. <br /> I observed drilling and sampling operations and collected groundwater samples from borings MH 1-1 and <br /> MH 1-2. The latter boring is approximately 60 feet south of MH 1-1. Both boring locations were on the <br /> south side of the road, east of Mountain House Creek. <br /> Soil and groundwater from MH 1-1 was visually impacted with TPH and the other did not appear to be <br /> impacted.
