California Street SITE CODE: 1687
Stockton CA 95202
In correspondence dated December 22, 2004 you were notified that the above referenced
site had been assigned to the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Departments
(SJC/EHD) Local Oversight Program for oversight of assessment and cleanup activities at
contaminated underground storage tank (UST) sites.
On December 3, 2004 the city removed a UST discovered during redevelopment
activities. The UST was located beneath what is now sidewalk on the east side of
California Street between Channel Street and Minor Ave. in downtown Stockton.
Following removal of the UST a minor overexcavation of contaminated soil was done;
analytical results from the soil sample collected at the bottom of the overexcavation area
were positive for total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel. A directive was issued by
SJC/EHD for the submittal of a work plan to further investigate the vertical and lateral
extent of the contamination from this UST.
By e-mail correspondence dated September 23, 2005 you informed SJC/EHD that the city
had no money in the budget to complete the required site investigation at that time. This
letter is to remind you that money for this work should be included in the 2006-2007 city
budget. A work plan to begin the investigation of the vertical and lateral extent of the
contamination at this site, in both soil and groundwater, is due for submittal to SJC/EHD
no later than October 27, 2006.
If you have any questions please call Lori Duncan at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
r
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Margaret agorio, Supervising REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV
cc: James Barton, CVRWQCB
