f •
I> - CKa-
CLEARWATER
• G R O U •P, I N C,
2.3b CPT Borings
Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals in specified locations to
assess soil contamination in the vadose zone. The soil sampler is pushed
using the weight of the 20-ton CPT rig. Samples are collected in 1.5-inch
diameter 6-inch long stainless steel sample tubes. Soil samples will be
analyzed for TPH as gasoline, TPH as diesel fuel, and BTEX.
At the other locations, only groundwater samples will be collected in an
attempt to identify the lateral limits of dissolved hydrocarbons in
groundwater. Groundwater samples are obtained by pushing 1.75-inch
diameter hollow rods with a steel tip. A filter screen is attached to the tip. At
the desired sampling depth the rods are retracted exposing the filter screen
and allowing the infiltration of groundwater. A small diameter bailer is then
used to collect groundwater samples through the hollow rod. Because of the
small volume of water obtained, the samples will be analyzed for TPH as
gasoline and BTEX only.
After sampling has been completed at each CPT boring, the boring will be
pressure grouted from total depth to ground surface.
The proposed sampling strategy is summarized on the attached table and in
the following section:
Borings CPT-I, CPT-2. and CPT-3:
In borings CPT-1, CPT-2, and CPT-3 soil samples will be collected at five-foot
_intervals (or at significant stratigraphic boundaries) between 15 feet and a
depth that is below the water table. The water level is anticipated to be no
deeper than 55 feet bgs. A maximum of 9 soil samples will be chemically
analyzed from CPT-1 and CPT-2. Soil samples from CPT-3 will be screened
using a flame ionization detector (FID) and up to 4 samples will be submitted
to the laboratory for analyses. Samples will be analyzed on a normal
turnaround-time basis.
Water samples will be collected from CPT-2 and CPT-3 using the CPT rig. The
samples will be analyzed for TPH as gasoline and BTEX.
•
4
D105WPAdd 10/95
