page 2, 602 California Street
SJC/EHD does not approve installing the wells without collecting soil samples . The
vertical extent of the soil contamination in the former tank pit area has not been defined
and , as stated in the March 22, 2005 work plan approval , the bottom of the borehole
should be continuously cored to ensure proper well screen placement. If AGE is
concerned with potential problems created by the use of hollow stem augers they should
consider a different drilling method , or advance an adjacent soil boring to collect soil
samples for analysis and for lithology confirmation compared to the CPT logs.
Completion of the investigation at this site has been proceeding too slowly. As the State
Water Resources Control Board UST Cleanup Fund is expected to sunset at the end of
2010, SJC/EHD encourages you , the responsible parties, to work diligently to meet all
regulatory deadlines to complete your site investigation and remediation while funds for
reimbursement are still available. SJC/EHD has received a schedule with dates for the
entire scope of work outlined in the March 22, 2005 work plan approval to be completed
by February 1 , 2006 . A Report of Findings detailing the results of the work is due for
submittal to SJC/EHD no later than April 3, 2006.
If you have any questions please call Lori Duncan at (209) 468-0337 .
Donna Heran , REHS , Director
Environmental Health Department A /
Lori Duncan , Senior REHS Nuel C.
