30 January 2014
AGE Project No . 99-0682
approximately 1 , 500 feet southwest of the site . It is unlikely that water in McCleod Lake is
contaminated by impacted groundwater from the site based on its distance and direction
(up-gradient) from the site .
9.0 . HISTORICAL SOIL REMEDIATION - SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION
Between 14 September 2010 (start-up ) and 22 August 2011 , an SVE remediation system
was operated at the site, utilizing a natural gas-fired , thermal/catalytic oxidizer SVE system
to selectively apply an induced vacuum to wells VW-1 , VW-2 , VW-3 and VW-4. SVE
procedures for the site were described in AGE-prepared Interim Soil Remediation Work
Plan (dated 25 July 2008) and approved by the SJCEHD , by letter dated 25 July 2008 .
Based on influent sampling results , the on-site SVE system removed an estimated
10 , 201 pounds , equivalent to 1 , 632 gallons of adsorbed petroleum hydrocarbons from the
vadose zone at the site (Tables 6, 7 , and 8) .
On 22 August 2011 the on-site SVE system was temporarily shut down for the
performance of an SVE rebound response test. The system was restarted for a period of
247hours on 19 October 2011 and subsequently sampled on 20 October 2011 as part of
the SVE rebound test.
Following the 22 August 2011 shut off date, SVE operations were suspended at the site
for a period of 58 days (2-months). Following the 2-month period , the SVE remediation
system was restarted and allowed to operate for a period of 24rfturs to achieve
equilibrium conditions . After the 24-hour operation period , rebound response SVE influent
and effluent air samples were collected .
Results of the SVE rebound response test did not indicate any significant spike in vapor
concentrations had occurred , and generally appeared to be within the range of previously
encountered hydrocarbon concentrations . The SVE system currently remains non-
operational based on results of the pilot test.
10.0. REMEDIAL FEASIBILITY TESTING - W--SITU CHEMICAL OXIDATION
Between 29-31 May, 04-06 June , 13- 15 June and 18-20 June 2012 , a total of twelve ( 12)
batches of a 5% solution of hydrogen peroxide (approximately 2 ,400 gallons) were
prepared on-site and pressure injected into wells MWAA and MW-8 as part of an in-situ
chemical oxidation ( ISCO) pilot test. procedures for the site were described in AGE-
prepared Interim Soil Remediation Work Plan (dated 25 July 2008) and approved by the
SJCEHD , by letter dated 25 July 2008 .
Advanced GeoEnvironmentay Inc.
