Advanced
GeoEnv 'lronmenta.l Inc . = ::
07 April 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0481
t
Ms. Carol Oz
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY PHS-EHD
304 East Weber Avenue, 3" Floor
Stockton, CA 95201
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION
Subject: Stockpile Soil Sample Results 304 E. Weber Ave. Third Floor
R O. Box 388, Stockto A 95201-0388
EMIL'S LIQUORS Approved
1405 California Street, Escalon, CaliforniaDenied ❑
Conditions
Dear Ms. Oz: Date by
This letter presents the results of laboratory analysis for soil samples collected from a stockpile of
soil generated at the above-referenced site. Soil samples were collected from the soil stockpile on
28 January 1999. Soil samples were collected from the stockpile to confirm previously reported
petroleum hydrocarbon-impact and to identify proper disposal options for the excavated material.
Background
Stockpiled material consists of soil excavated from the site during underground storage tank (UST)
and fuel island removal activities conducted in July 1997. During the UST removal activities,
excavated soil was stockpiled on an adjacent parcel located approximately 100 feet east of the site.
Approximately 100 to 150 cubic yards of soil was excavated and staged in 13 small stockpiles.
During the UST removal activities, a total of five composite soil samples (SP 1 through SP5) were
collected from the stockpiles for laboratory analysis. Results of stockpile soil sample analysis were
presented in Grayland Environmental's Underground Storage Tank Removal Report, dated
01 August 1997. Soil analytical results for the stockpile samples collected during the July 1997
activities are presented in the attached Table I and Table 2. As shown on Tables 1, concentrations
of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes
(BTEX), and methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) were detected in sample SP4 . TPH-g, BTEX,
MTBE, oil and grease, volatile organics, and metals were detected in sample SPS (Table 2). Also,
a relatively low concentration of TPH-diesel (TPH-d) was detected in sample SP3. Stockpile SP4
was generated during the removal and sampling of the fuel island and reportedly only amounted to
approximately five to six cubic yards, while soil stockpile SP5, generated during removal of an
approximately 85-gallon waste oil drum, amounted to six to eight cubic yards. Stockpiles SP4 and
SP5 reportedly comprised a small volume {apt)roximate]v 14 cubic vards) of the total 100 to 150
4005 North Wilson Way, Stockton, California 95205
Telephone (209) 467-1006 FAX (209) 467-1118
