•
Additional Site Assessment Work Plan
. EMIL'S LIQUOR STORE
1405 California Street, Escalon, California
1.0. INTRODUCTION
At the request of Mr. Robert Lease,Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc (AGE)has prepared this Work
Plan for assessment of the Emil's Liquor Store located at 1405 California Street, Escalon, California
(Figure 1). This work plan has been prepared as required by the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services-Environmental Health Division (PHS-EI-ID) by letter to Mr. Lease(property owner) dated
15 November 1999. This work plan is for completion of assessment activities presented in the AGE-
prepared Preliminary Site Assessment Work Plan, dated 25 August 1998, as well as investigation of
an unauthorized release of petroleum hydrocarbons that occurred during the preliminary site
assessment field activities. Additionally, this work plan is prepared in accordance with PHS-EHD
and Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board(RWQCB) guidelines for the investigation
of underground storage tanks (UST) sites.
The purpose of this site assessment is to evaluate the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum
hydrocarbon impacted soil and, if encountered, groundwater at the site. This work plan provides a
scope of work for the additional site assessment work and procedures to be used to advance soil
borings, collect soil and groundwater samples, analyze samples, and to abandon soil borings.
2.0. BACKGROUND
Site background information was presented in Preliminary Site Assessment Work Plan. A summary
of historical soil sample analytical results for soil samples collected during a previous Phase H site
investigation and during UST removal activities at the site are presented in Table 1. Soil sampling
locations utilized during the previous investigation and during UST removal activities are shown of
Figure 2.
3.0. PRELIMINARY SITE ASSESSMENT
In September 1998,AGE attempted to conduct site assessment activities using Geoprobe direct-push
technology. However, refusal was encountered in each of the soil probe borings at depths ranging
from 8 to 10.5 feet below surface grade (bsg). Geoprobe refusal was apparently due to encountering
hardpan, which prevented investigation to the proposed depth of 30 feet bsg. During the Geoprobe
investigation, one soil sample was collected from probe boring B-Ig at a depth of 9.5 feet bsg. Soil
probe boring B-Ig was advanced in the approximate area of UST removal soil sample S-4-FDw,
located at the former west fuel dispenser location (Figure 3). There were no reported detections of
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes(BTEX),total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel(TPH-
d), total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g), di-isopropyl ether(DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl
ether (ETBE), methyl-tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), tertiary-
Advanced GeoE nviron mental,Inc.
