.k Page 2 of 2
IF/WHEN it takes more than ONE hour (equal to $122) to destroy a well. So plan on a good,
quick crew to do the job. with less upfront money sen in, it's very possible delays on the
job/greater than ONE hour per well will add up and you'll get a bill for the amount over the
submittal amounts. there are two drillers out there wi h a coring device that will provide the
pressure grout "mushroom cap" our Ordinance requir as. this method saves time—which saves
you money.
remember, nested wells put in with, say a 10" auger, ill NOT be adequately over-bored with a
10" auger. why? to overdrill you have to set the center rod/stinger on the deep casing...it
WON'T be in the center of the borehole. so to reach Dut past the center point and reach the
outside of the sand/bentonite/grout of the other casing, you must use a larger auger. I've done
the math, you'll need a 14"115" HSA.. a 12" won't reach...nightmare to drill 15's very
deep....lots of I DW.
be sure to anticipate this need in your destruction proposal.
also, for pressure grouting, plan on thinnest legal nee t cement (94 lbs Portland to 10 gallons
potable water) injected down casing and held at LIQUID pressure (not air) of 25 psi for 10
minutes with no drop in level. Then there's the MUSF ROOM CAP..... Each pressure grouted
casing is then to be excavated to 3 feet bgs with a b re/auger diameter of 12 inches LARGER
than the original (installed) borehole to 2.5'bgs where the PVC is to be cut off. As an example,
if the well was installed with a 10" HSA, you'll need a 22" hole. this is where that coring device
shines. Grout is to be added to the casing and allowed to overflow into this hole and come up
12inches above the cut off PVC casing..(18inches bg ). hole to be filled to match
existing/surrounding area. IT's right out of our Coun Ordinance.(Section 13.17.12 &
13.12.13, SJ County Well Standards, attached above- see last page ).
here's the webpage for the forms you'll need. click arid print each.
http-//www.sjgov.org/ehd/Pr-o.arams/Environmental-./-... rings.h_tm
after all the wells are destroyed properly, you'll need to send me a report that details the
procedures, dates, and concerns with the well destructions. This report must include tracking
records for the IDW (investigational derived waste) si ned by the facility receiving the waste
before I can issue the official No Further Action letter closing the site on Geotracker.
good luck..
mike
5/16/2411
