Benzene, Toluene, Xylene, Ethylbenzene (BTEX) and Methyl tert-butyl ether
(MTBE) contaminants were evidenced in Monitoring Wells (MWs) 1 and 4 and in Vapor
Well 3. +
A discrete water sample was collected in MWI at 74.5 feet below surface grade during
the Quarterly Sampling event on 12/14/98 in an attempt to evaluate contamination in the !
deeper aquifer. Concentrations of BTEX and MTBE in this sample indicate the potential
for contaminant migration below 74.5 feet. The lateral and vertical extent of the
contaminant plume at this site is unknown.
Submit a Work Plan to PHS/EHD to define the lateral and vertical extent of
contamination at this site by March 31,'1999. Include in the Work Plan the information
requested in the PHS/EHD letter sent to you on May 13, 1998.
Contact Carol Oz, Senior REHS at (209)468-3440 if you have questions regarding this
letter.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
i
Carol Oz, Senior REHS Marg t Lagorio, HS
Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
cc: CVRWQCB-Mark List
EMCON-Jay Johnson, Joel Coffman
A Division of San Joaquin Counry Healrh Care Services
