The site location is shown on Figure 1.
The vapor probes will be used in a vapor intrusion pathway evaluation.
SITE DESCRIPTION
ARCO Service Station No. 2186 is located on the southeast intersection of North California
Street and Alpine Street in Stockton, California (Figure 2). The site currently operates as a
gasoline service station and mini-mart. The site dispenses gasoline from two underground
storage tanks (UST's) located near the northern portion of the property. Facilities include two
20,000-gallon, double-wall fiberglass gasoline USTs with associated product lines, and two k
dispenser islands. The majority of the subject property is paved with an asphalt parking lot and
common landscaping. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) topographic
map dated 1987 the elevation of the site is approximately 14 feet above mean sea level on a
relatively flat terrain. The surrounding properties consist primarily of commercial businesses,
single family residential homes, and a city park.
SITE BACKGROUND
Based on information provided by ARC, historically there were three USTs at the site (one
8,000-gallon tank storing super unleaded gasoline, and two 10,000-gallon tanks storing regular
unleaded gasoline).
From August to September of 1995, EMCON of Sacramento, California, supervised the drilling
of six vertical soil borings (B-1, B-3, B-4, B-5, B-7, and B-8) and two 45-degree angle soil
borings (B-2 and B-6). Three soil borings B-1, B-4, and B-5 were converted to monitoring wells
MW-1 through MW-3, respectively. Three soil borings B-3, B-7, and B-8 were converted to dual-
completion vapor extraction wells (VW-1 through VW-3, respectively).
In October 1996, EMCON supervised the drilling of one vertical soil boring B-9. B-9 was
subsequently converted to monitoring well MW-4. Gasoline Range Organics (GRO) was
detected in soil borings B-1, B-3, and B-7 at concentrations ranging from 1.1 milligram per
2186 SVI 8-07.doc SECOR International Incorporated
