Ms. Carol Oz Project 791701.008
October 19, 1999
Page 3
zone at approximately 80 feet bgs. Shallow zone groundwater samples were not collected
from CPT-1 and CPT-3. Pinnacle attempted to collect water samples at depth of 50 feet
bgs; however, the silts present at this depth did not yield sufficient water for sample
collection. After sampling, HydroPunch sampling equipment was disassembled and
decontaminated using a steam cleaner. Boreholes were grouted upon completion as
previously described.
Groundwater samples collected during the investigation were submitted to a state-certified
analytical laboratory (Sequoia Analytical) and analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons
as gasoline (TPHG) and the gasoline constituents benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total
xylenes (BTEX) using U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Methods 8015/8020 to
provide information for additional lateral and vertical plume definition. Additionally, these
samples were analyzed using Method 8260 for methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) and
other oxygenates. Pinnacle field procedures are presented in Appendix B.
ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Analytical results are presented in Tables 1 and 2. Copies of certified analytical reports
(CARS) and chain of custody (COC) documentation are presented in Appendix C.
Soil Samples
Soil samples collected from borings CPT-1 through CPT-3 were analyzed for TPHG by
USEPA Method 8015, BTEX and MTBE by USEPA Method 8020, and oxygenates by
USEPA Method 8260. None of the soil samples contained detectable concentrations of
TPHG and BTEX above their respective method reporting limits. MTBE was reported in
samples collected from CPT-2 at 35 and 55 feet below ground surface (bgs). Tfie vertical
extent of MTBE impacts was defined. No other oxygenates were reported. Soil analytical
results are shown on Table 1. Copies of certified analytical reports and chain of custody
documentation are presented in Appendix C.
HydroPunch Samples
HydroPunch groundwater samples were collected from CPT-1 and CPT-3 at 80 feet bgs
and from CPT-2 at 55 feet bgs and 80 feet bgs. TPHG was not detected in the groundwater
samples collected. Benzene was detected in CPT-2 at 55 feet at 0.641 micrograms per liter
(ugh). The benzene concentration was below MCL of 1.0 ugh and vertical extent was
defined. MTBE was detected in CPT-2 at 55 and 80 feet bgs at 412 and 27 ugh,
respectively. Analytical results are presented in Table 2. Copies of certified analytical
reports and chain of custody documentation are presented in Attachment C.
CP'1C:1ArchiveWrco121861Reports\2186p106.doc
