March 10, 1999 Page 2 Soil samples collected from beneath the former UST complex were reported to contain concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g) ranging from 130 to 5,800 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) Benzene was reported in two of the six samples collected at concentrations of 0 52 and 3 6 mg/kg Methyl tertiary butyl ether (MtBE) was reported in two of the six samples at concentrations of 0 19 and 3 6 mg/kg Total lead was not detected in any of the samples analyzed During UST removal activities, groundwater was encountered between 13 and 15 feet below ground surface (bgs) Historical depths to groundwater in the vicinity of the site obtained from the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) range from a historical shallow depth of 6 feet bgs to a maximum depth of 33-1/2 feet bgs Groundwater flow direction is estimated to be to the northwest SCOPE OF WORK • Offsite Sensitive Receptor Survey. IT conducted a search of well records at the DWR, Sacramento branch Four irrigation wells, two test wells, one domestic well, four wells used for combined domestic, irrigation, and industrial purposes, and one well of unknown use were identified Well search results are presented in Table 1 Well locations are shown on Figure 1 IT contacted the Lathrop School district and confirmed that the wells located on the grounds of Lathrop Grammar School are used for irrigation only On December 14, 1998, IT contacted the City of Lathrop and confirmed that all municipal wells used for public supply are located more than '/2-mile to the northeast The San Joaquin River is located 2 15 miles to the west Lone Tree Creek is located 5 miles to the northeast No downgradient surface water bodies were identified within V2- mile of the subject site Potential Offsite Sources IT contracted VISTA Information solutions (VISTA) to perform a search of regulatory agency databases for potential contaminant sources in the vicinity of the site VISTA identified five rtes within '/z-mile of the subject site �u�( containing hazardous materials The nearest site,Libby-Owens-Fo Glass Co (which 3 reportedly has a tank farm) is located 0 15 miles west of the site The next closest sites, Lague Sales and AILProducts Chem, located 0 20 and 0 26 miles east of the site, do not ave any documented aboveground storage tanks (AST) or USTs The VISTA report is presented in Attachment A • Preferential Pathways. IT contacted utility companies within the City of Lathrop to obtain maps showing the layout of utility lines near the site IT was only able to obtain a map from the City of Lathrop Public Works Department showing the layout of storm drains and water mains (Figure 3) near the site A map of the sewer lines was not •, available 9110054 Bloffsite
