31 August 2000
AGE Project No 96-0232
5 3 INSTALLATION OF REMEDIATION SYSTEM PIPING NETWORK
Two-inch diameter, schedule 80 PVC piping (process piping) will be installed in trenches
approximately 1%Z-foot bsg deep and I-foot wide and routed from each ground water extraction well
head to the ground water treatment system, one-inch diameter, schedule 80 PVC electrical conduit
will be installed in the same trenches and routed from each well head to an electrical fuse box
Individual sample ports with check valves to prevent back-flow cross contamination will be installed
at each of the four monitoring well process piping risers These ports allow sampling of each well
independently without having to remove the well head assembly Following piping placement the
trenches will be backfilled with imported road-base sand, capped with native soil, compacted and
covered with concrete A cut view drawing of the process piping layout is included in Figure 13, a
plan view drawing of the piping network is depicted in Figure 10
5 4 WELL PUMPS, INSTALLATION AND PROCESS PIPING
Grundfos Rediflow down-well pumps, type 5E5, equipped with Franklin 113 hp, 230V, 3-wire
motors will be installed in EW-2 and in seven newly installed ground water extraction wells One-
liemch diameter Schedule 40 PVC pipe will be installed from the pump discharge to the well-head
surface with a safety chain to prevent dropping the pump to the well bottom To minimize sediment
I intake through the pump, the bottom of the pump/motor assembly will be suspended approximately
1 foot from the bottom of each well Electrical wiring will be connected from the top of the pumps
through Class I electrical connectors/Junction boxes and electrical conduit to the pump controllers
5 5 WELL AND PROCESS PUMP CONTROLLERS
Both the extraction well pumps and the process pump are controlled by PumpTec controllers, each
ground water extraction pump will operate independently on a separate controller Pump controls ,
will be supplied by an amperage sensing/time control switch This switch will detect any decrease
in amperage when water level drops below the inpellor intake from any of the Grundfos pumps
IThe process pump, located behind the holding tank, will be controlled by electrode switches placed
at various levels in the holding tank An emergency shut-off switch will be located immediately
below the top of the holding tank An intermediate pump-on switch will be placed approximately
8-orches below the emergency shut-off switch and activate the process pump Intermediate pump-off
switches will be utilized near the bottom of the holding tank to turn the process pump off
0
Advanced GeoEnvironmentai,ine
I
