10 August 2004
AGE-NC Project No 96-0232
Page 2 of 10 _
2.0. PROCEDURES
Six soil bonngs were advanced on- and off-site in January 2004 and one monitoring well was
-installed off-site in May 2004 Geoprobe soil boring and ground water monitoring well installation - -
procedures for the site were outlined in Work Plan Addendum - October 2003, dated 17 October
2003 and approved by the RWQCB by letter dated 29 October 2003
21 DRILLING
On 20, 21 and 22 January 2004, soil bonngs P-39 through P-42 were advanced on-site and boring
P-43 off-site as part of site assessment activities related to the former leaking USTs/fuel dispensers
at the site The soil borings were advanced to maximum depths of 51 feet bsg with a van-mounted
Geoprobe 5400 unit equipped with 1 125-inch diameter probe rods and either an attached 2 15-inch
diameter soil sampler or a water sampling assembly Boring P-40 encountered drill refusal at 8 feet
bsg, therefore boring P-40A was located approximately 5 feet cast of P-40 and successfully advanced
to 51 feet bsg
On 14 May 2004, dual-completed ground water monitoring well MW-19 (A and B) was Installed
approximately 280 feet northeast of Flag City Chevron well MW-8 The well boring was advanced
vertically to 50 feet bsg utilizing a CME-75 high torque, truck-mounted drill ng equipped with fl-
inch diameter hollow-stem augers Soil cuttings were containenzed inDepartment of Transportation
(D O T )-approved model 17H 55-gallon drums and stored near the trash bin area located in the
northeast section of the site, soil boring/monitoring well locations are depicted in Figure 2
22 SOIL SAMPLING
Depth-discrete soil samples were collected from soil borings P-39 through P-43 at 5-foot intervals
Soil samples were collected from each soil boring using a Geoprobe soil sampling assembly and
"direct push"technology, each soil sampling assembly was loaded with four,pre-cleaned 1 125-mch-
diameter by 6-inch-length brass sleeves
Soil samples also were collected at 5-foot intervals at monitoring well MW-19 Soil samples were
collected from MW-19 utilizing a California split-spoon sampler loaded with 2-inch-diameter by
6-inch-length brass sleeves, the sampler was driven by dropping a 140-pound weight from a height
of 30 Inches The number of blows required to drive each 6-Inch length of the sampler(blow counts)
was recorded on boring logs by an AGE staff geologist, boring logs are in Appendix B
I
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
