30 January 2004
AGE-NC Project No 96-0232
Laboratory analysis ofR-2 grab water samples collected during the above monthlymomtormg events
reported turbidity values at concentrations between 0 1 and 3 7 nephelometric turbidity units
(NTUs), a TDS value of 571 mg/1 was reported on 09 December 2003 Analytical results are
summarized In Table 2, field measurements and laboratory reports are in Appendix C
2 7 MASS-VOLUME REMOVAL CALCULATIONS
Based on effluent flow meter observations(Appendix A,Table 8),approximately 1,109,431 gallons
of MTBE-impacted water were treated during the fourth quarter 2003, a total volurne of
approximately 23,535,076 gallons of MTBE-impacted water has been treated at the site since the
start-up period in November 2000
The volume of extracted water between 15 September and 06 November 2003 was equal to 520,191
gallons, which equates to a mass of 4,336,832 pounds of processed water Multiplying the average
MTBE concentration (assumed to be 24 5 µg/1 based on the average of the September and the
November 2003 influent grab water samples) by the pounds of extracted MTBE-impacted ground
water yields approximately 0 11 pounds of MTBE removed from MTBE-impacted ground water
during this period(Appendix D)
The volume of extracted water between 06 November and 19 November 2003 was equal to 231,641
gallons, which equates to amass of 1,931,191 pounds of processed water Multiplying the average
MTBE concentration (assumed to be 29 ig/l based on the average of the 06 November and the 19
November 2003 influent grab water samples)by the pounds of extracted MTBE-impacted ground
water yields approximately 0 06 pounds of MTBE removed from MTBE-impacted ground water
during this period (Appendix D)
The volume of extracted water between 19 November and 09 December 2003 was equal to 171,423
gallons, which equates to a mass of 1,429,154 pounds of processed water Multiplying the average
MTBE concentration (assumed to be 23 5 gg/1 based on the average of the November and the
December 2003 Influent grab water samples) by the pounds of extracted MTBE-impacted ground
water yields approximately 0 07 pounds of MTBE removed from MTBE-impacted ground water
during this period (Appendix D)
During the fourth quarter 2003, an estimated 0 24 pounds of MTBE was extracted from ground
water,to date, the groundwater treatment system has removed a total of approximately 12 53 pounds
of MTBE from extracted ground water(Table 8) Fourth quarter 2003 mass-volume calculations of
MTBE-impacted ground water extracted from the ground water pump-and-treat system are presented
in Appendix D Plots of cumulative ground water pump and treat mass removal trends and influent
ground water MTBE concentrations versus time are In Appendix E
Advanced GeoEnwronmental,Inc
