I
13• July 2001
AGE-NC Protect No 96-0232
Page 8of15
After water levels were measured, approximately 5 to 8 gallons of ground water(a minimum of three
casing-water volumes per well)were removed from wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-4, MW-5, MW-6A,
MW-6B and MW-7 utilizing a two-stage submersible pump or a disposable polyethylene bailer,
ground water pumping was initiated at the top of the water column and the pump was slowly lowered
to total depth to purge ground water within the entire well casing Temperature,pH and conductivity
were measured for stabilization at regular purge-volume intervals from each well using a Hydac
water analyzer Field data and logs are in Appendix G Monitoring well purged ground water was
transferred to the ground water remediation system holding tank for treatment and disposal
The multi-level monitoring wells MW-8 through MW-13 were purged by lowering and raising a
318-inch outer diameter, length-discrete polyethylene hose equipped with a ball-valve water tip
through the top chambers into the specific water-charged screened section Approximately 1 to 5
gallons of ground water (a minimum of three casing-water volumes per well) were removed from
the multi-level monitoring wells Multi-level well purged ground water was transferred to the ground
water remechation system holding tank for treatment and disposal Field data logs are included with
Appendix G
lie 3 2 GROUND WATER SAMPLING
Following well purging, ground water levels in all of the above mentioned monitoring wells
achieved a minimum of 80 percent recharge prior to sample collection Ground water samples were
collected from the purged wells MW-1 through MW-7 utilizing new, 2-inch diameter disposable
polyethylene bailers, ground water samples were collected from the purged wells MW-8 through
MW-13 utilizing 1/4-inch diameter polyethylene tubing Ground water samples were transferred into
one-liter amber bottles without a preservative and into three 40-m1 EPA-approved VOA vials
containing 0 5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative Care was taken to ensure that
visible air bubbles were not present in the vials after filling and capping Ground water sample
containers were labeled with the well designation, date, time, and sampler's initials
Ground water sample collection from municipal water wells CSA-1, CSA-2 and domestic water
wells RDW-1 and DW-1 was achieved by opening the valve from the outlet sample port and
allowing each well pump to turn on and operate for a minimum of 15 minutes to purge the wells and
then collecting the running water directly into the sample containers
Ground water samples were collected at sampling ports located near the tops of extraction wells
EW-2, EW-4, EW-5,EW-6, EW-7, EW-8,EW-9 and EW-10, each extraction well was allowed to
be operational for at least 30 minutes prior to collecting samples directly into the sample containers
•
I
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
I
