SECTION 6 y _ <br /> ACCIDENT PREVENTION AND CONTINGENCY PLAN <br /> 6.1 Accident Prevention <br /> All field personnel will receive neaith and safety training prior to the initiation of <br /> any site acaviue .' On a dav-to-dav basis, individual, personnei should be constantiv <br /> alert for indicators of potentially hazardous situations and for signs and symptoms in <br /> themselves and others that warn of hazardous condiuons and exposures. Rapid <br /> recognition of dangerous situations can avert an emergency. Before daily work <br /> assignments, regular meeting should be held. Discussion should include: <br /> • Tasks to be performed. <br /> ' Time constraints (e.g., rest breaks, cartridge changes). <br /> • Hazards that may be encountered. including their effects, how to recogme <br /> symptoms or monitor them, concentration limits. or other danger signals. <br /> • Emergency procedures. <br /> 6.1.1 Drilling <br /> Prior to any drilling activity efforts will be made to determine whether <br /> underground installations will be encountered and, if so, where these installations <br /> are located. Hard hats and safety boots must as a tnirumurn be worn within 50 feet <br /> of the drill ng. The drilling rig cannot be operated within 10 feet of power lines. A <br /> Drilling Safety Guide is provided in Appendix E. <br />!� The Field Team Leader or Site Health and Safety Officer will provide constant <br /> on-site supervision of the drilling subcontractor to ensure that they are meeting the <br /> health and safety requirements. If deficiencies are noted, work will be stopped and <br /> corrective'action will be taken (e.g., retrain, purchase additional safety equipment). <br /> Reports of health and safety deficiencies and the corrective action taken will be <br /> forwarded to the Project Manager <br /> 6.2 Contingency Plan <br /> 6.2.1 Emergency Procedures <br /> E� In the event that an emergencv deveiops on site, the procedures delineated <br /> herein are to be immediately followed. Emergencv conditions are considered to <br /> exist if- <br /> . Any member of the field crew is involved in an accident or experiences any <br /> adverse effects or symptoms of exposure while on site. <br /> • A condition is discovered that suggests the existence of a situation more <br /> hazardous than anticipated. <br /> General emergencv procedures, and specific procedures for personal injury and <br /> chemical exposure, are describes in the health ana safeiv plan. <br /> EM/sYZ=01/0M <br /> 6-1 <br />
