STATE OF CALIFORNIA—HEAtTH AND WELFARE AGENCY GEORGE DEUKMEJIAN, Covera'
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES
TOXIC SUBSTANCES CONTROL DIVISION
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA SECTION October 2, 1986
4250 POWER INN ROAD
SACRAMENTO,CA 95826
(916)739.3145
Mr. Richard Landon o ,
Executive Vice President
Marley Cooling Tower. Company p.a
P.O. Box 2912
Mission, Kansas 66202 ENVIRCYdt ! rV !' ALTH
Ir ER 11-i;SEL.vt tS
Dear Mr. Landon:
REVISED WORKPLAN AND RESPONSE TO REGULATORY COMMENTS
Approval was given to David Sates on September 5, 1986 to proceed
with the next phase of the groundwater investigation at your
Stockton facility. We have reviewed your workplan and are in
agreement that the work should proceed as outlined in the plan.
However, it is possible the feasibility study will be constrained
by lack of data. For example, if in-situ treatment is one of the
remedial alternatives proposed and there are insufficient data
for its proper evaluation, the data will have to be collected at
that time, possibly delaying the remediation of the site.
To investigate the physical properties of the soil, we are
requesting that the following basic soil classification tests be
performed on soil samples collected from locations where you are
considering in-situ treatment.
1. Gradation
2 . Atterberg Limits Tests
3 . Cation Exchange Capacity Tests
Please provide the bench-scale studies report prepared by Roman
Z. Pyrih and Associates, described in Attachment A of your latest
submittal. Other items which have been requested, but not
received are as follows:
1. Phase I and II groundwater investigation data - depth
of pumps during pump testing done by Hargis and
Associates. (May 27 , 1986 letter to Marley) .
2 . Requests for copies of actual well logs, instead of the
summary of borehole lithology as submitted in prior
Hargis reports. (May 27 , 1986 letter to Marley) .
