PHS/EHD has prepared the following comments
for your consideration.
The report included the analytical results of soil samples collected on September 14, 1993
during the installation of MW6 and of groundwater samples collected on November 22,
1993.
Soil contamination was evidenced at 10 and 20 feet below ground surface of up to 12
ppb toluene and 22 ppb xylene. Soil samples were not collected at shallow depths for
analysis during the installation of MWl - MW4. Additional investigation to define the
extent of soil contamination will be necessary. Groundwater contamination was
evidenced in all monitoring wells with the exception of MW4. It may be necessary to
install an additional monitoring well in the area of MW6 to further define the
groundwater contamination documented in this area.
The report did summarize recent activities, but did not fulfill the reporting requirements
of PHS/EHD nor the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
(CVRWQCB). Please refer to Annendix A - Reports dated August 30, 1991 and
prepared by the CVRWQCB, for further information regarding the contents of quarterly
status reports.
Please prepare and submit by March 31, 1994 a workplan addendum to continue the soil
investigation. Work should be scheduled in April 1994 and the results reported in the
second quarter monitoring report due June 15, 1994.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
