0 0
1. Introduction
This work plan was prepared on behalf of SPX Cooling Technologies to outline the
installation of two groundwater monitor wells at the former Marley Cooling
Technologies facility located in Stockton, California(the Site). The purpose for the
proposed monitor wells is to improve the definition of the distribution of chromium
concentrations in the shallow and intermediate zones north of the retort pit, to monitor the
progress of additional in situ remediation at the retort pit area scheduled for the summer
of 2016, and monitor water levels and estimate capture by well EW-4,when it is
converted to an active remedial well.
The two proposed wells will be installed as a well cluster and will be located
approximately 15 to 18 feet east of well EW-4 and 20 feet north of the northeastern most
injection point proposed at the former retort pit area(Figure 1). The wells will be
completed in separate boreholes and will be spaced approximately 8 feet apart. One well
will be completed in the shallow zone and identified as MW-402. The other well will be
completed in the intermediate zone and identified as MW-451.The shallow zone is
typically characterized as silt and clay interbedded with some sandy silt and silty sand.
The intermediate zone is typically characterized as a clayey silt to sand and gravel.
The proposed design and construction of the two new monitor wells is based on the June
2014 guidance manual "Well Design and Construction for Monitoring Groundwater at
Contaminated Sites"prepared by the California Environmental Protection Agency
Department of Toxic Substances Control and the February 2005 guidance manual
"Standards for Well Construction and Destruction in San Joaquin County" prepared by
the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department. The following scope of work
describes the tasks involved in constructing the new intermediate zone monitor wells in
the South Yard.
2. Project Logistics — Preparation for Drilling
Prior to the start of any work, Dudek will generate a site-specific health and safety plan to
identify the hazards associated with drilling at the site. The health and safety plan will
identify the nearest hospital to the project site and mark the shortest route to it. The
health and safety plan will be on site during all work.
Dudek will submit a well permit application to the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department for the construction of the two groundwater monitor wells. Gregg
Drilling, a California licensed drilling contractor in good standing with the San Joaquin
County Department of Environmental Health, will be retained by SPX to construct the
two groundwater monitor wells.
The proposed well sites will be marked with white paint and identified with the proposed
well identification. USA North 811 will be contacted at least 48 hours prior to
Work Plan—Installation of Monitor Wells 9672
SPX Corporation I Dudek
Stockton,California May 2016
