All work involved in the installation of
the monitor wells will occur during the weekday hours. All materials and equipment will
remain on site. The site is secured within a chain link fence and locked gate. The drilling
area will be cleaned as thoroughly as possible at the end of the job. Dudek anticipates that
the construction of the two monitor wells will be completed in 5 days after start of drilling.
3. Proposed Locations for Wells MW-402 and MW-451
The proposed locations for the wells are in the North Yard. The wells will be installed as
a well cluster and will be located approximately 15 to 18 feet east of well EW-4 and 20
feet north of the northeastern most injection point proposed at the former retort pit area
(Figure 1). The wells will be spaced approximately 8 feet apart.
4. Drilling
The drilling contractor, Gregg Drilling, will mobilize a full-sized truck mud rotary drill
rig, support equipment, and forklift to the site. The staging area will be set up in the
SPX-owned North Yard where equipment and drilling materials may be secured and
stored safely out of the way of operations conducted by the current owner of the South
Yard. Drilling will commence after known underground utilities have been identified
and marked.
4.1.Borehole Construction for Well MW-451
• The borehole for MW-45lwill be drilled by advancing a 7.875-inch O.D. mud
rotary drill bit to approximately 185 feet below ground surface (ft bgs).
• Drill cuttings will be examined on site by a geologist under the supervision of a
California registered professional engineer to characterize lithology.
Characterization will be conducted following the American Society for Testing &
Materials (ASTM) standard D2488-09a, "Standard Practice for Description and
Identification of Soils (Visual-Manual Procedure).
• Prior to well construction, downhole geophysical logging (short- and long-normal
resistivity, gamma, caliper, etc.)will be completed.
• After soil characterization, all soil cuttings will be dumped into and contained in a
20-yard roll-off bin lined with visqueen. The roll-off bin will be temporarily
stationed near the drilling area.
• The depth interval for the well screen will be based on the lithology characterized
from the continuous core. If necessary, the bottom of the borehole may be
backfilled with Monterey No. 3 (i.e. 8x20 gravel) sand to the desired depth of the
borehole.
4.2.Well Construction for Well MW-451
• The construction of well MW-451 will include 10 feet of nominal 2-inch diameter
Schedule 40 PVC casing perforated with 0.020-inch slots (Figure 2).
Work Plan—Installation of Monitor Wells 9672
SPX Corporation 2 Dudek
Stockton,California May 2016
