During this test, an
estimated 0.6 pound of TPHg was removed from groundwater.
3.2.2.7 Groundwater Drawdown Data
During the test at MW-9S, at distances of approximately 7 feet (MW-9A), 3 feet (MW-9), 27 feet (MW-11),
and 55 feet (MW-12) from the well, maximum drawdowns of 1.43, 0.53, 0.26, and 0.12 feet below static
water level, respectively, were observed. A plot of MW-9S drawdown versus time during the test is
. provided in Figure 3.
During the test at MW-9A, at distances of approximately 7 feet (MW-9S), 7 feet (MW-9), and 35 feet (MW-
11) from the well, maximum drawdowns of 0.97, 0.71, and 0.16 feet below static water level, respectively,
' were observed. A plot of MW-9A drawdown versus time during the test is provided in Figure 4.
3.2.3 Two Phase Extraction Test Conclusions
' Based on the results of the TPE test, TPE does not appear capable of drawing down the water table
sufficiently to effectively remove hydrocarbons from unsaturated soil.
' 3.3 Ozone Sparge Test
Ozone is a strong oxidant capable of reacting with hydrocarbons in the gas and dissolved liquid phases.
The treatment process forms non-toxic dissolved by-products including water and carbon dioxide.
3.3.1 Scope of Ozone Sparge Test
The OS pilot test commenced on March 12, 2002, and continued through December 2, 2002. The OS
test system was comprised of four sparge wells (OS-1 S/1 D, OS-2S/2D, OS-3S/3D, and OS-4S/4D) with a
shallow and deep sparge point located within each well. Each sparge point was connected by
mechanical piping to a C-SpargerTM ozone generator made by K-V Associates Incorporated (KVA). The
locations of the wells and treatment system compound are shown on Figure 2.
Monitoring was performed prior to initiation of OS, and monthly thereafter. Results of ozone testing
through August of 2002 were reported in SECOR's Well Installation and Ozone Sparging Pilot Test
Progress Report, dated September 18, 2002.
