1 ARCADIS Ms. Lori Duncan
1- July 27, 2010
Permitting
ARCADIS will obtain well destruction permits from the EHD. ARCADIS will
coordinate field activities with the EHD and schedule an E inspector to provide
oversight of the well destruction activities.
Four well locations containing wells MW-6, MW-7, MW-10M, MW-1 OD, MW-11 M and
MW-11 D are located off site within a city right-of-way. ARCADIS will obtain the
necessary encroachment permits to access these wells fro T the City of Stockton
Public Works (CSDPW) prior to performing intrusive field work. In addition, a traffic
F control plan will be prepared by ARCADIS and submitted toy CSDPW for review and
approval prior to performing intrusive field work.
Field Activities
Utility Clearance
Prior to conducting subsurface work at the site, the well locations will be cleared for
underground utilities by a private utility locator. In addition, 6nderground Services
Alert (USA)will be notified at least 72 hours before intrusive field activities are
initiated.
Well Destruction
Prior to destruction, the total depth of each well will be measured to confirm that the
well casing is free of obstructions. ARCADIS proposes to destroy each well using
one of the two methods described below based on the concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbons detected during the most recent groundwater sampling event.
Pressure Grouting
Groundwater monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, MW-6, MW-7, MW-9M, MW-91D,
MW-10M, MW-1 OD, MWA 1 M, MWA 1 D, MWA 2D, MWA 3M and MW-13D will be
destroyed by removing the well box at each well and pressure grouting neat cement
into the well casing from the total depth of the well to ground surface, ensuring a,
complete seal of the screened interval. Subsequently, a dril€ling rig equipped with 12-
inch diameter hollow stem augers will be used to over-drill the top 5 feet of each well.
Additional grout will be added as needed to obtain a column of grout to just below
Page:
IVarce6sus.comlDlficeOafalSacramanlo-CAVproject(EMftBRCA-044931G OWrverablrsmrnk Pte 1t.*We11O"mcl'an Wort(Plan 4493_Final_5581010950.d— 214
