3.0 Technology for groundwater
Jeff Morrison discussed the initial and secondary technology screening tables for
groundwater. During the initial screening it was explained that many of the technologies
were not stand-alone technologies, and that in some cases three technologies can be used on
the same water. Discussions took place regarding various capping options and it was decided
that maintaining a cap would be added to institutional controls and that capping as
containment would be examined with respect to single barrier and double barrier caps.
4.0 ARARs
Liz Dodge reviewed the ARARs that had been compiled for the Feasibility Study. They were
divided into chemical-specific, location-specific, and action-specific ARARs as well as to-be-
considered requirements.
Philip Isorena presented a list of RWCQB ARARs and Liz Dodge said that she would review
this list.
5.0 Status of data needs/collection
Paula Bolio reviewed the status of additional data needs. These were discussed with respect
to soil data in Area I, soil and groundwater data in Area II, and B Zone groundwater data in
the vicinity of El Dorado Street. It was agreed that a site walk was needed in the near term to
review the proposed sampling locations.
It was agreed that five borings would be drilled in Area I, two near source area 1, two near
source area 4, and one in a source area (such as source area 2). These borings would be
drilled to the water table and sampled every five feet and at stratigraphic changes or observed
contamination. Samples would be sent for PNA, BTEX, and TPH-diesel/gasoline analyses.
The DI Wet test would be performed on four samples, two each from two soil borings. The
DI west test would be performed on the sample with the highest concentration and on the
sample closest to the water table from the same boring.
It was agreed that in Area II there would be two or more soil borings from the area near MW-
23R for the purpose of examining the location of the TPH-diesel detected in groundwater at
that location. Sample depths would be based on field observations and samples would be sent
for BTEX and TPH-diesel/gasoline analysis. A few samples would be analyzed for PNAs.
Soil and groundwater would be tested.
It was agreed that the downgradient extent of PNAs in groundwater would be examined with
drilling along El Dorado Street. One well would be drilled with Hydropunch samples taken
during drilling through the A and B Zones.
2
