0 r
Subpart P, and Title 8 CCR, 1541 will be followed.
For trenches or excavations less than 4 feet in depth:
Whenever possible, workers will not enter trenches or test pit excavations. When
entry is required, standby personnel will be present to respond in the event of an
emergency.
• Stop logs or other barriers will be used to prevent vehicles from rolling into open
trenches or excavation pits.
• Sources of vibration and heavy objects or equipment will not be situated on the
edge of a test pit unless steps are taken to ensure the stability of the trench wall.
• Water will not be allowed to accumulate in trenches and excavations.
• Excavated materials will be stored at least 2 feet from the edge of the trench or
excavation.
3.1.3 Backhoe and Drilling Specific Hazards and Procedures
Overhead Power Lines
With drill rigs or any other equipment with a high boom, clearance from high voltage lines must
be maintained in accordance to 8 CCR 2946 (Table 2). The minimum required clearance is as
follows:
Nominal Voltage Minimum Required
(Phase to Phase) Clearance (feet)
600 to 50,000 10
over 50,000 to 75,000 11
over 75,000 to 125,000 13
over 125,000 to 175,000 15
over 175,000 to 250,000 17
over 250,000 to 370,000 21
over 370,000 to 550,000 27
over 550,000 to 1 ,000,000 42
The Site personnel shall be aware of increased electrical hazards during high humidity or rainy
conditions. If the high voltage lines are not tagged, or if the voltage cannot be verified by an
appropriate authority, then a minimum clearance of 42 feet shall be maintained.
In the event the drill rig contacts an overhead power line: do not touch the rig or any person in
contact with the current, keep others away, and call 911 and the local power company. No one
should attempt a rescue unless he/she has proper qualifications.
ENV~ 5 February 2005
A M E R 1 C A P1PG&E\PGE-05-01 Stockton MW26R Investigation\MW26 Work Plan\H&S\H&S Plan-2005.doc
