0 0 <br /> 3.0 SITE HAZARD ASSESSMENT <br /> Based on the previous Site investigations, the following potential hazards have been identified at <br /> the Site: 1) physical hazards, and 2) chemical hazards. <br /> 3.1 Physical Hazards <br /> Physical hazards at this Site may include activities associated with drilling and sampling: <br /> disturbance of utilities, tripping, falling or slipping during Site activities, injury from moving <br /> equipment on rigs, and noise. <br /> 3.1.1 Drilling/Augering Hazards <br /> Electrical cables, gas lines, water lines, and unknown objects may be located underground at the <br /> Site. ENV America will notify Underground Service Alert(sometimes referred to as"Dig Alert" or <br /> "USA") of the intent of field investigation at least 48 hours prior to the start of field operations. <br /> The following drilling/augering standard operating procedures will be implemented to prevent the <br /> drilling hazards: <br /> • A hard hat and eye protection will be required for protection from potential head <br /> and eye injury; <br /> • Visitors will not be allowed to enter the work zone unless they have attended a <br /> project safety briefing and have had appropriate health and safety training; <br /> • Borings will be secured (i.e., covered)when drilling and sampling activities are not <br /> actually taking place; <br /> • No boring will be left unattended; and, <br /> • The drill rig will not be moved until the boom has been completely lowered. <br /> The work zone for this Site shall consist of the area within 20 feet of an open borehole or the drill <br /> rig. The work zone for hand augering will consist of the immediate area where such activity is <br /> occurring. No equipment other than those needed for the specific activity will be placed in this <br /> area. <br /> 3.1.2 Trenching Hazards <br /> Exploratory trenches are not anticipated for this project. In the unlikely event trenching is <br /> conducted, the precautions and procedures presented in this section will be adhered to. <br /> Excavations may pose physical hazards to Site Personnel. Because of the potential hazards <br /> associated with trenches (such as sidewall instability and toxic or combustible gas <br /> accumulation).
