Ms.Julie Shortridge
ARCADIS BBL
September 14,2007
Prior to drilling and soil sampling, proposed soil sampling locations will be cleared for underground
utilities by a qualified private utility locator. In addition to clearing locations for underground
obstructions (including utility lines),the private utility locator will attempt to trace any oil-containing
pipelines in the vicinity of the identified key oil handling features (listed above). If such pipelines are
traced to suspect areas not included in the current sampling approach, additional soil sampling may
be proposed. Once the proposed sampling locations have been marked onsite, Underground
Service Alert will be notified.
Soil sampling will be completed using a hand auger and Geoprobe direct-push rig. The hand auger
will be utilized for sampling in the upper 5 feet at each location as a safety precaution for
underground utility lines that may not have been identified during utility clearance activities. If
locations are sufficiently close to electrical equipment (as determined by the onsite PG&E
electrician), the hand auger maybe used to complete the boring beyond the initial 5-foot depth. At
locations with adequate distance from electrical equipment, the Geoprobe direct-push rig will be
used to collect samples to the target depths.
At this time, utility clearance activities are planned for the week of September 17, 2007. Sampling
activities are currently scheduled to begin on October 8, 2007, and have an estimated duration of
two to three weeks.
If you have any questions or comments regarding these workplan summaries, please do not hesitate
to contact me at(925) 215-4601.
Sincerely,
Terra Pacific Group Incorporated
L
Rick McCartney
Principal
Attachments: Workplan summaries for each substation site
Tables 1 through 7 presenting sampling program and sampling rationale
Figures for each substation site
Page 2
TERRA PACIFIC GROUP
