21 October 2002
AGE-NC Project No 00-0769
2 2 COLLECTION OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
I '
Water samples were collected from each monitoring well using new disposable bailers after allowing
' the wells to achieve a minimum 80%recovery of the pre-purge water volume Each water sample
was transferred into three 40-m1 VOA vials containing 0 5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid as a sample
preservative After collection, the samples were properly labeled, placed in a chilled container and
' transported under chain-of-custody to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories (CTEL), a California
Department of Health Services-approved laboratory, for analysis The samples were analyzed for the
following
' • Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline(TPH-g)in accordance with EPA Method 8015M,
and
' • Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) and fuel additives di-isopropyl ether
(DIPS), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), MTBE, tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME),
' tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA), methanol, ethanol, 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB) and
1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) in accordance with EPA Method 8260B
3.0. FINDINGS
Ground water elevation, flow direction and gradient were determined from field data collected on
12 August 2002,the contaminant impact to ground water was quantified by the laboratory analytical
' data
' 3 1 GROUND WATER GRADIENT AND FLOW DIRECTION
The elevation of ground water in each well was calculated by subtracting the depth to ground water
' from the surveyed well head elevations (Table 1) Depths to ground water during the third
quarter 2002 monitoring event ranged from 24 94 feet to 26 03 feet below the tops of the well
casings Ground water elevations at the site ranged from 14 69 feet below mean sea level (MSL) in
' MW-3B to 15 26 feet below MSL in MW-3A Ground water was within the screened interval of
shallow monitoring wells MW-2B and MW-3B
tMonitoring data from MW-2B and MW-3B was combined with monitoring well data collected from
the adjacent Arc Pump and Welding (1211 Turnpike Road) on 12 August 2002 to determine the
approximate ground water flow direction Ground water at the site was flowing generally toward the
' east-northeast at a gradient of approximately 0 002 feet/feet (Figure 3)
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
1
